Po Katrinie: próbka "końca świata"

Nieraz zastanawiałem się, jak zachowaliby się ludzie w obliczu końca świata - to znaczy takiego, jaki znają. Wojna nuklearna, jakiś wielki meteoryt i pył zasnuwający niebo - i tak dalej. Wielka tragedia, która nagle każe się nam wszystkim (żywym) zastanowić nad sobą, nad priorytetami w życiu i tak dalej. Sytuacja w Nowym Orleanie zdaje się być próbką tego, czego wówczas moglibyśmy się spodziewać.

Jak wygląda życie w Nowym Orleanie, mieście, w którym upadł porządek publiczny? Telewizja i prasa informują, oczywiście. Tyle, że z opóźnieniem i relatywnie wstrzemięźliwie. Wczoraj po południu żaden z polskich portali nie raczył przedstawić sytuacji w Luizjanie jako wiadomości dnia (takiej wyboldowanej). Media amerykańskie chyba przestają dozować światu informacje.

Tu wkracza oczywiście piąta władza, która wymusiła reakcje na czwartej. Blogi okazały się najbardziej skutecznym sposobem przekazania światu, co NAPRAWDĘ dzieje się w Nowym Orleanie i okolicach. A raczej - o jakiej skali anarchii mówimy. Kilka cytatów od osób, które są świadkami tych wydarzeń i raportują je dzięki komórkom, a w konsekwencji przez Internet. Albo po prostu przez Internet, tam, gdzie działa:

Trzeba jednak przyznać, że czym innym jest problem wynoszenia jedzenia czy ubrań ze sklepów, a czym innym są uzbrojone bandy ze slumsów, które terroryzują całe ulice... Pamiętajmy, że plądrowane obecnie hipermarkety Wal-Mart sprzedają normalnie broń.

Nie można dać głowy za prawdziwość wszystkich zacytowanych wydarzeń. Ogrom zniszczeń jest jednak na tyle duży, że wystarczy probabilistyka i trochę własnego grzebania w blogach.

A zresztą: Drudge Report pomocny będzie najbardziej.
