Relikty dawnej Sieci

Odgapiony od Bruce'a Sterlinga link do eseju Olii Lialiny na temat "cyfrowego folkloru" jest ciekawym znaleziskiem. A sam esej bardzo interesujący. Badaczkę i netartystkę z Niemiec interesuje to, co retro w Sieci - grafiki, animacje, kolekcje dźwięków z czasów, gdy internet nie roił się od profesjonalnych webdesignerów. Słowo "folklor" ma nawet sens, mnie się to skojarzenie podoba, gdy przypominam sobie dawne strony WWW upstrzone dziwacznymi animacjami i rozchwianymi melodiami w MIDI. Ale abstrahuję przy tym od naukowych definicji folkloru, tak dla jasności.

Lialina patrzy na sprawę ciekawie, przytoczę kilka wyimków a do przeczytania reszty zachęcam. A zatem:

"The relationship between ordinary users and the Web of the 90s is a very interesting subject to study, because it’s a relationship filled with love, hate, all kinds of drama – in other words, it’s a full-blown relationship between a new medium and its first users, a relationship that’s exalted, complex, sometimes silly – whatever it is, all that matters is that it existed".

...dzisiaj natomiast brakuje relacji człowiek-Sieć, co wydaje mi się trafną uwagą. Używając kazikowego tekstu jako przenośni: konsument mówi, że je aby jeść. Nie interesuje go filozofia jedzenia, przywiązanie do pewnych zasad i idei. Jedzenie służy do jedzenia i koniec. Dlatego ma sporo racji Lialina, gdy pisze:

"Today, that relationship is gone. (...). The space that we’ve researched as a new medium for the last ten years has turned into the most mass medium of them all. Nothing more than a mass medium, permeating our daily lives to the point of becoming invisible. Its numerous users are busy working, having a good time or expressing themselves, and they have almost perfect tools and services at their disposal. Connection never breaks, distinction between a server and a hard disk, between your desktop and that of another person has almost vanished, and there’s nothing that could contribute to the development of user-media relationship, nothing to provoke us".

Nie sposób jednak nie dojrzeć, że miejscami padają tu słowa zbyt surowe. Z tekstu Lialiny na pewno przebija tęsknota za Dawną Siecią Która Nie Wróci; aż czuć nostalgię towarzyszącą badaczce w jej pracy. Niezależnie od wątpliwości, ta uwaga wydaje mi się strzałem w dziesiątkę:

"Web 2.0 propagandists can’t stop talking about the multitude and power of today’s web amateurs, the new users who love to dance, compose songs, write encyclopedic articles, take photos and film videos, write texts and publish it all on the Web. And yet, they are rather indifferent to the Web itself".

Ja też nie jestem pewny, czy wiem, jak wiele w obecnej Sieci jest miejsca dla... Sieci. Polecam cały esej, także dla jego warstwy graficznej.

A tymczasem od jutra konferencja Polskiego Towarzystwa Socjologicznego, gdzie wątki internetowe - takze starej i nowej Sieci - zapewne pojawią się wielokrotnie.
